Blog #18 : Through the Mirror : Chapter 7 (Finale)

It was the third day since Skylar and Merlin had been abducted by the cloaked men. Charlie had been furiously working on the plan to infiltrate the castle where the siblings were being held hostage. He had practically finished it, but he wasn't really prepared to battle fully trained men. He had had visions of Skylar and Merlin every night in his sleep, and they were still alive. However, something was wrong with Skylar...

Charlie read spell book upon spell book for days, and trained himself as much as he could. He felt as though he could possibly fend off a few enemies, but not a whole army. However, he couldn't wait any longer, he had to save them. Every night, he could see that Skylar and Merlin were in a worse condition, and they needed help desperately.

Charlie grabbed his wand, put on his cloak, and headed outside. It was a rather nice day today, the sun was shining, not a cloud in the sky. This lifted Charlie's mood greatly.

Charlie hopped onto Starlight, and headed off into the distance, following the map to Demons Castle. He had been travelling for about 45 minutes, when he saw it. He saw Demons Castle. It came into view over the horizon, and it was fascinating. It had a large moat all around it, and four enormous towers looming over the kingdom. However, it also had dozens of guards patrolling the outside (and most likely the inside) of the castle, so Charlie halted, and slid off of Starlight. He then tied her up on a tree, and duck behind a bush.

He examined the positioning of the guards, and substituted his plan into that. He made his way closer to the castle, and slowly crouched behind one of the men guarding the sewers. He then muttered a spell under his breath with made the guard gently sway, and collapse to the ground. Charlie grew a large grin on his face, and rushed down to the sewer entrance. He pulled it open, and entered.

Charlie's face crinkled at the disgusting smell, but pushed on. He made his way through the winding paths down in the sewer until he reached a ladder, that supposedly, led up to the dungeons. He climbed up the ladder, trying to make as little noise as possible, and slowly opened the trapdoor. He peered into the room, and it was clear of guards. He pushed the door open, and climbed up into the room. The walls were made of damp stone, and you could smell the oldness of the room.

Charlie heard footsteps emitting from the room next to him, and dashed for a large wooden wardrobe, where he hid in.

"Have you tended to the girl?" A mans voice said.

"Yes, she has had her daily dose." Another said.

Charlie tried to comprehend what this meant. 'Her daily dose' ? What could this mean? However, he knew it was about Skylar.

The footsteps got quieter and quieter until Charlie could no longer here them. He exited the wardrobe, and headed for the room next door. He peered through, and saw prison cells. He recognised this place. It was the place in his dreams.

"Skylar? Merlin?" He whispered as he entered the room.

"Charlie! Over here! You found us! They've taken Skylar, i haven't seen her for days!" Merlin whispered in one of the cells on the other side of the room.

"Merlin! Thank god you're alright!"

Charlie ran over to Merlin's cell, and unlocked it with a flick of his wand.

"Charlie...?"

Charlie stopped dead.

"Is that you?"

Charlie's heartbeat rose dramatically, and he could feel his eyes swelling up. He slowly turned around, and faced the another cell.

"Charlie! Son!" Yelled Tim.

"DAD!" Bellowed Charlie.

He ran over to his dad's cell, unlocked it, and lunged himself at his dad with open arms.

"How are- What happ- Why-" Charlie stuttered.

"Shhhh! I'll explain later, we need to get out of here, we've attracted the guards!" Said Tim.

Charlie unlocked his dad's chains, and the same with Merlin, and the headed for the exit.

"Stop right there!" Yelled a guard.

Charlie, Merlin and Tim stopped. Charlie stood in front, seeing as he was the only person armed with a wand.

"You won't be leaving this castle alive, boy!"

"Ya' think?" Charlie replied.

Charlie shot a large blue spark out of his wand, which hit the ceiling, making it collapse on all of the guards below it.

"RUN!" Yelled Charlie.

They all ran out of the door, and locked it behind them.

"We need to find Skylar." Said Charlie.

"I don't think we need to look much further..." Said Tim.

Charlie looked at where his dad was facing, and saw Skylar standing, gazing at them with dreary eyes.

"Skylar!" Yelled Merlin.

"No, wait!" Charlie shouted.

He ran to his sister, but she raised her hand and a large bolt of lightning shot out the end of it, hitting Merlin square in the chest, sending him flying back against the wall.

Charlie's face dropped.

"MERLIN!" He exclaimed, as he ran over to his limp body.

"HE'S DEAD! HE'S DEAD!" He cried at the top of his voice.

Tim stumbled onto a table, and it held all of the confiscated items that the prisoners had. He saw his wand and grabbed it. He then faced Skylar, and cast a spell directly at her. Her eyes rolled into the back of her head, and she hit the ground.

"DAD!"

"Don't worry, she's just unconscious! Quick, we need to get to the portal!" Tim yelled.

Charlie picked Skylar up gently, and held her in his arms. He ran to the door, but looked back at Merlin.

"I'm sorry."

He ran out of the room, and up the grand staircase which led to the top of the castle. Seeing as Charlie's hands were full, Tim went in front and fended off the guards. Charlie hadn't planned this far ahead, so he didn't know exactly where he was going from here, but his dad did.

"This way, son!" He yelled.

Charlie run up the last flight of stairs after his dad, and the reached large double wooden doors. Charlie kicked them open with all the energy he had, and entered.

There it was. The portal. It was very large, and encrusted with all types of gems, just like the mirror.

Charlie and his dad looked at each other, and ran towards the portal. To Charlie, it felt like everything was going in slow-motion at this point. They reached the portal, and Tim grabbed Charlie by the hand, and the jumped. Just before the entered the portal, Charlie turned around.

"Merlin!" He yelled.

Merlin had entered the portal room.

It was too late, Charlie and Tim had gone. They span through complete darkness, Charlie grabbed onto Skylar as tightly as she could, and then they hit the cold, hard ground.

Charlie lay there for a while, then lifted his head up. He was in the one place he wanted to be. His home. The portal must have tapped into his mind, and taken him here.

"Merlin..." He whispered to himself.

"Charlie, it's too late. The portal would have closed now, we only just made it, the guards were permanently shutting it down." Said Tim.

Charlie didn't know what to do. All that he did do, was look at Skylar. She was lying, unconscious on the pavement next to Charlie.

Charlie bent down, and kissed her gently on the lips.

She began to stir, and opened her eyes.

"Ch- Charlie?" She muttered.

Charlie smiled.

"It's ok, we're safe now." He said to her.

She sat up, and looked around.

"Wh- Where are we?" She asked.

"Skylar, this is Earth." Charlie explained.

Skylar's face lit up, and she slowly stood on her feet.

"Mum!" Charlie yelled, as she opened the front door.

"Charlie? TIM!?" She bellowed.

Tim ran up to her, and gave kissed her.

Charlie cringed, and held Skylar's hand.

"Come on, let's go inside."

Charlie led Skylar into the house, and they sat down in the living room.

"Let me go and get you a drink, Skylar" He said.

Charlie left the room and entered the kitchen. As he was about to pour some juice into a glass, he spotted the newspaper on the kitchen table, and it read.

"Double child murder on Orchard street, London. The children have been named Skylar and Merlin Grey."

The End.
