Blog #18 : Through the Mirror : Chapter 7 (Finale)

It was the third day since Skylar and Merlin had been abducted by the cloaked men. Charlie had been furiously working on the plan to infiltrate the castle where the siblings were being held hostage. He had practically finished it, but he wasn't really prepared to battle fully trained men. He had had visions of Skylar and Merlin every night in his sleep, and they were still alive. However, something was wrong with Skylar...

Charlie read spell book upon spell book for days, and trained himself as much as he could. He felt as though he could possibly fend off a few enemies, but not a whole army. However, he couldn't wait any longer, he had to save them. Every night, he could see that Skylar and Merlin were in a worse condition, and they needed help desperately.

Charlie grabbed his wand, put on his cloak, and headed outside. It was a rather nice day today, the sun was shining, not a cloud in the sky. This lifted Charlie's mood greatly.

Charlie hopped onto Starlight, and headed off into the distance, following the map to Demons Castle. He had been travelling for about 45 minutes, when he saw it. He saw Demons Castle. It came into view over the horizon, and it was fascinating. It had a large moat all around it, and four enormous towers looming over the kingdom. However, it also had dozens of guards patrolling the outside (and most likely the inside) of the castle, so Charlie halted, and slid off of Starlight. He then tied her up on a tree, and duck behind a bush.

He examined the positioning of the guards, and substituted his plan into that. He made his way closer to the castle, and slowly crouched behind one of the men guarding the sewers. He then muttered a spell under his breath with made the guard gently sway, and collapse to the ground. Charlie grew a large grin on his face, and rushed down to the sewer entrance. He pulled it open, and entered.

Charlie's face crinkled at the disgusting smell, but pushed on. He made his way through the winding paths down in the sewer until he reached a ladder, that supposedly, led up to the dungeons. He climbed up the ladder, trying to make as little noise as possible, and slowly opened the trapdoor. He peered into the room, and it was clear of guards. He pushed the door open, and climbed up into the room. The walls were made of damp stone, and you could smell the oldness of the room.

Charlie heard footsteps emitting from the room next to him, and dashed for a large wooden wardrobe, where he hid in.

"Have you tended to the girl?" A mans voice said.

"Yes, she has had her daily dose." Another said.

Charlie tried to comprehend what this meant. 'Her daily dose' ? What could this mean? However, he knew it was about Skylar.

The footsteps got quieter and quieter until Charlie could no longer here them. He exited the wardrobe, and headed for the room next door. He peered through, and saw prison cells. He recognised this place. It was the place in his dreams.

"Skylar? Merlin?" He whispered as he entered the room.

"Charlie! Over here! You found us! They've taken Skylar, i haven't seen her for days!" Merlin whispered in one of the cells on the other side of the room.

"Merlin! Thank god you're alright!"

Charlie ran over to Merlin's cell, and unlocked it with a flick of his wand.

"Charlie...?"

Charlie stopped dead.

"Is that you?"

Charlie's heartbeat rose dramatically, and he could feel his eyes swelling up. He slowly turned around, and faced the another cell.

"Charlie! Son!" Yelled Tim.

"DAD!" Bellowed Charlie.

He ran over to his dad's cell, unlocked it, and lunged himself at his dad with open arms.

"How are- What happ- Why-" Charlie stuttered.

"Shhhh! I'll explain later, we need to get out of here, we've attracted the guards!" Said Tim.

Charlie unlocked his dad's chains, and the same with Merlin, and the headed for the exit.

"Stop right there!" Yelled a guard.

Charlie, Merlin and Tim stopped. Charlie stood in front, seeing as he was the only person armed with a wand.

"You won't be leaving this castle alive, boy!"

"Ya' think?" Charlie replied.

Charlie shot a large blue spark out of his wand, which hit the ceiling, making it collapse on all of the guards below it.

"RUN!" Yelled Charlie.

They all ran out of the door, and locked it behind them.

"We need to find Skylar." Said Charlie.

"I don't think we need to look much further..." Said Tim.

Charlie looked at where his dad was facing, and saw Skylar standing, gazing at them with dreary eyes.

"Skylar!" Yelled Merlin.

"No, wait!" Charlie shouted.

He ran to his sister, but she raised her hand and a large bolt of lightning shot out the end of it, hitting Merlin square in the chest, sending him flying back against the wall.

Charlie's face dropped.

"MERLIN!" He exclaimed, as he ran over to his limp body.

"HE'S DEAD! HE'S DEAD!" He cried at the top of his voice.

Tim stumbled onto a table, and it held all of the confiscated items that the prisoners had. He saw his wand and grabbed it. He then faced Skylar, and cast a spell directly at her. Her eyes rolled into the back of her head, and she hit the ground.

"DAD!"

"Don't worry, she's just unconscious! Quick, we need to get to the portal!" Tim yelled.

Charlie picked Skylar up gently, and held her in his arms. He ran to the door, but looked back at Merlin.

"I'm sorry."

He ran out of the room, and up the grand staircase which led to the top of the castle. Seeing as Charlie's hands were full, Tim went in front and fended off the guards. Charlie hadn't planned this far ahead, so he didn't know exactly where he was going from here, but his dad did.

"This way, son!" He yelled.

Charlie run up the last flight of stairs after his dad, and the reached large double wooden doors. Charlie kicked them open with all the energy he had, and entered.

There it was. The portal. It was very large, and encrusted with all types of gems, just like the mirror.

Charlie and his dad looked at each other, and ran towards the portal. To Charlie, it felt like everything was going in slow-motion at this point. They reached the portal, and Tim grabbed Charlie by the hand, and the jumped. Just before the entered the portal, Charlie turned around.

"Merlin!" He yelled.

Merlin had entered the portal room.

It was too late, Charlie and Tim had gone. They span through complete darkness, Charlie grabbed onto Skylar as tightly as she could, and then they hit the cold, hard ground.

Charlie lay there for a while, then lifted his head up. He was in the one place he wanted to be. His home. The portal must have tapped into his mind, and taken him here.

"Merlin..." He whispered to himself.

"Charlie, it's too late. The portal would have closed now, we only just made it, the guards were permanently shutting it down." Said Tim.

Charlie didn't know what to do. All that he did do, was look at Skylar. She was lying, unconscious on the pavement next to Charlie.

Charlie bent down, and kissed her gently on the lips.

She began to stir, and opened her eyes.

"Ch- Charlie?" She muttered.

Charlie smiled.

"It's ok, we're safe now." He said to her.

She sat up, and looked around.

"Wh- Where are we?" She asked.

"Skylar, this is Earth." Charlie explained.

Skylar's face lit up, and she slowly stood on her feet.

"Mum!" Charlie yelled, as she opened the front door.

"Charlie? TIM!?" She bellowed.

Tim ran up to her, and gave kissed her.

Charlie cringed, and held Skylar's hand.

"Come on, let's go inside."

Charlie led Skylar into the house, and they sat down in the living room.

"Let me go and get you a drink, Skylar" He said.

Charlie left the room and entered the kitchen. As he was about to pour some juice into a glass, he spotted the newspaper on the kitchen table, and it read.

"Double child murder on Orchard street, London. The children have been named Skylar and Merlin Grey."

The End.

Blog #17 : Through the Mirror : Chapter 6

Charlie, Skylar and Merlin were now sitting in a small, crooked pub in a small side road, and were all sipping at their hot chocolates.

"I'm sure of it, it was my dad!" Charlie explained.

"But...Charlie...you said your dad died." Said Skylar.

"Yeah, and he did. I don't know how, or why he's here, but i'm sure that was him!" Charlie pleaded.

Skylar frowned.

"Surely it's impossible for him to be here." Merlin said.

"Well...i suppose. But he looked exactly like my dad! Well, i guess it wasn't really him, it couldn't have been. He would've come to me if it was him. I can hope though." Charlie finished.

They all finished their hot chocolates, and left the pub. The weather had changed drastically. It was now heavily raining, with the odd spot of thunder and lighting. The trio put their hoods on and headed for the horses at the entrance of the city.

"Charlie, you have a look around the shops, me and Merlin will go and gather some mushrooms for tonight's dinner! Meet us back here in 15 minutes!" Skylar explained.

Charlie nodded and headed off to wander the city.

15 minutes later, Charlie reconvened at the horses as planned, but they weren't there. Lightning struck extremely loudly, and Charlie jumped a little. He began to get slightly worried, so headed in the direction of where they went. There was no sign of them.

"Skylar! Merlin!" Charlie bellowed over the loudness of the dreadful weather.

There was no reply.

Charlie saw a hooded man run between the tree's in the distance, and a quick glimpse of dazzling blonde hair. He started running towards the man as fast as he could, the rain and wind hitting his face.

"CHARLIE! HELP!" Screamed a girl.

It was Skylar.

"SKYLAR!"

Charlie saw Skylar and Merlin being held over the should by two cloaked men.

"NO!" Charlie exclaimed at the top of his voice.

There was a loud crack, and they were gone.

Charlie was breathing heavily, hair sopping wet, clothes completely drenched, tears streaming down his face. He ran back to the horses, jumped onto Starlight, and attempted riding of back to the tree.

He tried to copy what Skylar did on the horse, and it worked quite well. 20 minutes later, he had arrived at the tree, where he tied up the horse, and entered. He chucked off his coat, ran up to his bed, laid on it, and started sobbing to himself.

"Charlie, help us." Said Skylar

She was locked up in a prison cell with Merlin. She had cuts all over her face, and was tied up to a wall. Charlie then saw a large, intimidating castle looming over him.

Demons Castle.

Charlie shot up, and looked at the clock. It was 7 o'clock the next morning. He rubbed his eyes, and felt tears running down his face.

"Be brave, Charlie." He said to himself as he wiped the tears away.

Blog #16 : Through the Mirror : Chapter 5

It had been a week since Charlie had arrived in Caspia, and he had settled in rather nicely. He had got to know Skylar and Caspia much more, and they began to really grow on him. However, he still needed to get back home, to his mum.

They had all looked at the plan to infiltrate the castle, and agreed they wanted to get a better look at the castle.

"G'morning!" Said Skylar, when Charlie came down the staircase.

"Morning, Skylar" He replied.

Charlie sat down at the table and started tucking into his full English breakfast that had been prepared by Skylar.

"This is delicious" Charlie commented

"Just like always!" He added.

Skylar smiled and went upstairs to get dressed, and as she did, Merlin came down. He lunged himself onto the sofa and started reading a book. Charlie felt that he was closer to Skylar than he was to Merlin, but wasn't too sure why. A few minutes later, Charlie went upstairs to get changed, and Merlin shouted to him.

"Hey Charlie, we're gunna go to the city today, dress up nice and warm!"

"Ok, sure!" Charlie replied.

Charlie ran up the staircase and into his room, where he saw Skylar making his bed for him.

"Oh you really don't need to do that, ya'know!" Charlie remarked.

"Oh don't worry about it, I don't mind. Oh and did Merlin tell you we're going to the City? When you're dressed, come outside, I've got a surprise for you!" Skylar replied with a grin on her face as she left the room.

Charlie racked his brain to try and think what this mysterious surprise could be, but nothing came to mind. He whipped on the warmest clothes that Skylar had bought him a few days ago, and scurried down the stairs as fast as he could. He stopped at the bottom, and realised that that is exactly what he did on his birthday. He shook it off, and put a smile on his face and began running again, to the front door. He stepped outside, and saw two, large white horses. His mouth fell open at how beautiful the creatures were, and walked closer to them.

"Charlie, meet Starlight and Shadow." Announced Skylar.

Charlie couldn't take his eyes off of them, it was like something magic was pulling him nearer and nearer.

"Charlie, you can share mine, Starlight. Hop on!" Skylar said.

Skylar jumped onto Starlight, and Merlin jumped onto Shadow. Charlie had never ridden a horse in his life, so couldn't help but feel worried, yet extremely excited at the same time. He walked over to Starlight and grabbed Skylar's hand, and she pulled him up.

He felt much more superior on top of Starlight. He felt like he was free to travel the world, and see what Caspia had to offer him. (If he could ride a horse, that was...).

"Ready?" Asked Skylar.

"No..." Replied Charlie.

Skylar laughed and galloped off into the dark forest. Charlie didn't realise he would be thrown back so much, so instantly grabbed onto Skylar's waist. They galloped through the deep forest, until the emerged into the snowy hillside above the beach, and joined onto the gravel path that was signed.

"To the city".

Merlin led the way most of the time, with Skylar and Charlie bringing up the rear. After 20 minutes of constant galloping along the gravel path, the city came into site, and Charlie's face lit up at the amount of people that were bustling through the streets and sidewalks, and then Skylar and Merlin came to a halt.

"Here we are!" Announced Merlin.

They trio dismounted the horses, and tied them up outside a pub named.

"The Duo Of Wands".

They all started walking down the main street in the City, and Charlie was glaring at all the fascinating shops that were selling the most amazing things. He suddenly realised he had no money, so his smile dropped.

"Skylar, I don't have any money!" He exclaimed above all the hustle and bustle of the City people.

"Oh don't worry about that, our parents left us a fortune in their will!" She replied with a laugh.

Charlie didn't say anything, as he couldn't wait to get his hands on the goods that were for sale. He walked past a shop called.

"Ye' olde broomsticks"

Inside, were dozens of different styles of broomstick, and decorations for people to personalise them with. Then he passed another shop called.

"Percy's Potions."

Charlie's eyes glowed when he strolled passed this shop, as she saw shelves full of dozens upon dozens of different coloured potions, and some people were testing them. One person drunk one and started flying all over the place! Charlie gave out a little laugh of disbelief.

All of a sudden, there was an extremely loud bang that came from the street around the corner. The trio looked at each other with worried expressions, and ran for the source of the noise. They turned the corner and saw about 30 people crowded around a few men. There was one cloaked man, who looked to be fighting a 4 other men, who looked quite official. Police men, Charlie thought. The cloaked man shot a huge red spark out the end of his wand, and it hit the floor in between the other men, who all went flying up into the air, and landing with a loud thug. Everything cried out.

"Ouch!.."

Then Skylar said.

"We should do something!"

"No, they wouldn't listen to teenagers Skylar, let's just watch!" Merlin said followed by a laugh.

Skylar sighed, and stood their helplessly.

The four men got up, and all shot the same spell. Charlie thought this would be the end for the cloaked man, when suddenly, he cast a spell which looked like a sort of force field, which deflected all four spells, sending them back to the caster. The four men all fell back, unconscious.

All the bystanders fell silent, and stepped away, allowing the cloak man to leave the circle. Then it happened. The cloaked man turned and faced Charlie. Charlie's face dropped, and he fell to the floor.

Skylar and Merlin screamed and pulled Charlie up.

"Charlie! What's wrong!?" Skylar exclaimed.

Charlie didn't answer. Instead, he began running to the man, and tried to catch up with him through the already bustling crowd. He manoeuvred through the crowd, and came out the other side.

The man had gone.

Skylar and Merlin had caught up with him.

"Charlie! What is it? What's wrong?" Asked Skylar.

"It was...It was my Dad."

Blog #15 : Through the Mirror : Chapter 4

Charlie couldn't stop gazing at the enormous tree that lay in front of him.

"Don't just stand there, come in!" Said Merlin.

Charlie jumped a little, as he was so engaged with looking at the tree. He nodded, and followed them to the front door. It was fairly small, and completely made out of oak wood. There were little window sills either side of the door, with large rose's planted in them. The three of them entered the tree, and the first thing Charlie noticed was the potent smell of freshly baked cakes, and cinnamon. He found this very comforting. He looked around the room, and saw a living room area, with a book case and a couple of cozy looking sofas. He saw that there was no modern facilities, like TV's and game consoles. He saw a very cute looking kitchen, with a large oven, and a small wooden table next to the wooden wall, and a small window. There was then a spiral staircase also made out of wood, which looked intriguing.

"Well, this is our home, Charlie." Said Skylar.

"Where are your parents?" Charlie asked, curiously.

There was a moment of awkward silence, and Skylar and Merlin looked at each other sheepishly.

"They're...dead." Said Merlin.

Skylar looked very sad, but didn't show any sign of crying. Charlie thought this was probably because it might had been such a long time since they lost their parents, so they were getting used to it.

"I'm...I'm really sorry to hear that." Said Charlie.

Merlin shrugged, and stared out of the window.

"I forgot to ask, what about your parents?" Asked Skylar.

Charlie new this was coming, but didn't know he would be speechless. He took a deep breathe, and explained what had happened to his Dad, and how he left his mum in London, on her own.

Merlin and Skylar looked extremely shocked at what Charlie had just told them. Skylar walked over to him, and put her arm around him.

"Come on, I'll make you some hot chocolate." She said.

Charlie nodded, and smiled. He sat down at the table and stared out of the window. The weather had changed since he had arrived in Caspia. It was now very cloudy, and looked as though it was about to rain. Charlie looked quite confused about this, and then Skylar said.

"Oh don't worry about that, it happens all the time in Caspia, don't know about Earth, I've never been there."

She put the hot chocolate down on the table in front of him, and sat down.

"Skylar, is there any way of getting back to Earth? I can't just leave my mum!" Charlie asked.

"Well, there is ONE way. It's more or less impossible to do though. Basically, there is a portal in Demons Castle, and it goes directly to Earth. However, it's the most guarded place on the planet, you'd never get in there. Me and Merlin have been making a plan to get in there for years, but we've hit a dead end. We can't seem to get around the guards at the main staircase."

"Well, I'm sure i can help. I can't stay here, i need to get back! So, why are you planning to go to Earth?" Said Charlie.

"Well, what have we got to live for here? We might as well go exploring!" Replied Skylar.

Charlie shrugged in agreement, and took a sip of his hot chocolate.

A couple of hours later, it was starting to get dark, and Charlie was about to fall asleep on the living room sofa, so Skylar came over and shook him a little.

"Charlie? Charlie, we've cleared our spare bedroom for ya'. Come on!" She whispered.

Charlie sleepily got up, and walked up the spiral staircase to his new room. He walked in, and there was a very comfy looking bed, with a window behind it, and a desk opposite the bed. It was small, but he liked it.

"Thank you, Skylar." He said.

Skylar smiled kindly, and walked out and close the door.

Charlie stood there for a moment, just taking in what had happened in the past few hours, and sighed with disbelief. He shook his head, trying to stop thinking about his dad, and got into the pajamas that had been neatly folded on his bed for him, and slipped into bed.

The morning had arrived, and it was rather dark in Charlie's room, so he thought it was very early morning. He slowly slid out of his warm, cozy bed, and opened the curtains. To his surprise, it was heavily snowing, and the ground was already layered with about 5 inches of snow. He smiled to himself, and whispered.

"Crazy..."

He looked at the clock on the bedside table, and it read 7 o'clock. He decided to creep out of his room and down the spiral staircase. As he went down, he began to hear faint whispers coming from the living room. He reached the bottom, and saw Skylar and Merlin already up and dressed, whispering to each other with their backs to Charlie.

Charlie crept up behind them, trying to listen to what they were talking about. All he heard was.

"We need to help Charlie get back to Earth"

Before the floorboard creaked underneath his feet, and Skylar and Merlin turned around.

"Hey...!" Said Charlie.

Skylar and Merlin smiled, and started laughing.
